Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Dry Spell to Continue, Fishermen Advised Caution Amid Rough Seas

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai forecasts predominantly dry weather over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal for the next two days, with isolated light showers possible in a few locations. Meanwhile, squally winds over the Andaman Sea and Arabian Sea have prompted a cautionary advisory for fishermen, as sea conditions remain rough.

Tamil Nadu Weather Outlook — November 1 Update

Chennai, November 1 — The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted that Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal will continue to experience generally dry weather over the next 48 hours. A few isolated regions may, however, see light rainfall as easterly wind patterns fluctuate across the southern peninsula.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the current weather conditions are being influenced by changes in wind speed and direction, a common factor during the early phase of the northeast monsoon.

“Due to a variation in wind speed and direction, Tamil Nadu and its adjoining Union Territories are likely to experience predominantly dry conditions. However, isolated light rainfall may occur at one or two locations,” the Met Centre said.

Rough Seas and Fishermen Advisory

Meteorologists have observed increasing wind activity over the Andaman Sea, with squally winds reaching speeds between 35–45 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph. The RMC has strongly advised fishermen not to venture into the sea, citing the risk of rough weather conditions.

Similar wind patterns are expected along:

  • The Gujarat and north Konkan coasts

  • Adjoining parts of the east-central and northeast Arabian Sea

In these regions, rough sea conditions are also likely to prevail, and fishermen are urged to remain cautious until conditions stabilize.

Chennai Weather Forecast

In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy, with:

  • 🌡️ Maximum Temperature: ~35°C

  • 🌡️ Minimum Temperature: ~26°C

  • 💧 Humidity: Moderate to high

Meteorologists note that, despite moisture presence in the lower atmosphere, widespread or heavy rainfall is unlikely in the coming week. The subdued rainfall trend follows the weakening of a recent low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.

Monitoring the Northeast Monsoon

With the northeast monsoon yet to reach its full intensity, the Regional Meteorological Centre continues to closely monitor the Bay of Bengal for potential new low-pressure formations. Such developments could bring significant rainfall to Tamil Nadu and adjoining regions later in November.

“The weather office is maintaining vigilance over the Bay of Bengal to track emerging systems that may revive the monsoon,” an RMC official confirmed.

Safety Reminder for Coastal Communities

The Globweather Channel joins the Meteorological Department in urging fishermen and coastal residents to stay informed through official weather updates. It’s crucial to avoid venturing into the sea when squally winds or rough sea warnings are issued.
