Met Office Forecast: A Warmer and Windier November Ahead for the UK

The Met Office predicts a warmer-than-average November across the UK, with blustery conditions, rain showers, and strong winds expected early in the month. As November progresses, conditions will gradually settle, bringing milder temperatures and more stable weather patterns.

A Milder November on the Horizon

As November begins, the Met Office has forecasted temperatures above seasonal averages across much of the UK. Despite a wet and windy start, meteorologists expect milder, calmer conditions to develop by mid-month, signaling an unseasonably warm transition into late autumn.

Met Office meteorologist Gregory Dewhurst explained:

“Come Monday, maximum temperatures will be between 14 and 15°C, maybe even reaching 17°C — a good few degrees above average.”

This early November warmth will bring cloudy skies and strong southwest winds, typical for this time of year, but snowfall will remain limited to mountain regions in Scotland and northern England.

Early November: Wet, Windy, and Unsettled

Throughout the first week of November, frequent downpours and gusty winds are expected across the UK.

  • Scotland and Northern England will see heavy rain early in the weekend.

  • Wind gusts could reach up to 53 mph in parts of Scotland, while the south coast may experience gusts around 30 mph.

  • Thunderstorms, hail, and lightning are also possible, particularly across western and southern regions.

Despite the turbulent conditions, the Met Office notes there will still be bright intervals between showers, offering occasional sunny spells across much of the country.

Mid to Late November: Settled and Milder

By mid-November, high pressure is expected to build over the UK, bringing a more stable weather pattern.
This shift will likely result in drier, clearer days and temperatures above the November norm, potentially reaching mid to high teens in southern regions.

Meteorologist Dewhurst added that while Hurricane Melissa, currently impacting the Caribbean, will contribute to global atmospheric shifts, its influence on UK weather will be minimal, serving only to maintain unsettled Atlantic patterns for a short period.

What to Expect for the Rest of the Month

  • Early November: Rain, strong winds, possible coastal gales.

  • Mid-November: Gradual shift to drier, milder conditions.

  • Late November: Settled weather, light winds, and above-average temperatures.

Overall, November 2025 looks to be warmer than usual, with less risk of snow and fewer prolonged storms compared to previous years.
