Severe travel disruption, flooding, and hazardous driving conditions are expected. Here’s everything you need to know.

Storm Amy Sparks Nationwide Weather Warnings

The Met Office has issued its tenth weather warning as Storm Amy prepares to sweep across the UK starting tonight (Friday, October 3). Both yellow and amber alerts are now in place across every region, with meteorologists warning of “disruptive wet and windy weather” through the weekend.

Widespread Rainfall and Strong Winds Expected

Heavy rainfall and strong, gusty winds will hit all parts of the UK. Gusts are expected to reach:

  • 60–70 mph widely

  • Over 95 mph in amber warning areas

This weather could cause:

  • Flooding in low-lying areas

  • Difficult driving conditions

  • Travel delays and cancellations

Yellow and Amber Weather Warnings by Region

📍 Northern England, Scotland & Northern Ireland

  • Yellow rain warning: Active from this morning (11 AM in NI, 12 PM in Scotland)

  • Amber wind warnings: In place for parts of northern England and Scotland

  • Conditions worsening by Friday evening and continuing through Saturday

📍 Southern England & Wales

  • Yellow wind warning: Midnight to 7 PM Saturday

  • Gusts will bring disruption and danger, especially in exposed coastal and highland areas

📍 Scotland’s Islands
