Residents across southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia should brace for a week of fluctuating weather, from sunny skies to scattered storms. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, especially for Sunday afternoon, when gusty winds and isolated flooding are possible. Here's what to expect throughout the week.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown has issued a hazardous weather outlook for southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia, with a mix of sunshine and storm chances expected over the coming days.

Today’s Forecast (Sunday):

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop after 1 PM, with a 40% chance of precipitation. Some of these storms may bring gusty winds and isolated flooding due to heavy rainfall. Daytime highs will approach 80°F, with light winds shifting northward around 5 mph.

By evening, the chance of storms drops to 30%, giving way to partly cloudy skies and a comfortable low of around 63°F.

Looking Ahead:

  • Monday: Expect mostly sunny conditions, with temperatures near 82°F and only a 20% chance of late-afternoon storms. Winds will come from the northeast at 5 to 10 mph. Overnight, skies remain mostly clear with lows around 64°F.

  • Tuesday to Thursday: A steady pattern continues with partly sunny skies, highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, and a low chance (20–30%) of isolated showers or storms in the afternoon or evening.

  • Friday Outlook: The week wraps up with clearing skies, offering residents a pleasant and drier end to the workweek.

Hazardous Weather Concerns:

According to the NWS, some isolated storms today may bring hazardous conditions, including gusty winds and heavy downpours, potentially leading to localized flooding. However, beyond Sunday, the outlook for widespread severe weather remains low, providing some relief for those planning outdoor activities. At this time, no spotter activation is expected.

Recommendations:

Residents are encouraged to stay updated via local weather alerts and the NWS for any changes in conditions—especially those planning to be outdoors during peak storm hours.
