Ireland has experienced its usual autumnal weather swings this September, with warm sunny days giving way to heavy rain and gusty winds. Looking ahead, Met Éireann’s October forecast brings a mix of good news and reminders to stay prepared for the changeable Irish climate.
Starting the month, a strong band of high pressure is expected to dominate, ushering in predominantly dry and settled weather. From September 29 to October 5, Ireland can look forward to plenty of sunshine and above-average temperatures, with rainfall remaining below the usual levels for this time of year. Though there may be occasional showers, especially later in the week, overall conditions should be pleasant.
The second week, from October 6 to 12, continues this trend of dry, stable weather, particularly in the south, thanks to high pressure situated southwest of Ireland. While some rain showers may affect northern regions, most areas will enjoy below-average rainfall and temperatures close to the seasonal norm.
However, the calm won’t last forever. From October 13 to 19, Met Éireann predicts more unsettled and changeable weather. Rainfall will increase, possibly exceeding seasonal averages, with alternating dry spells. Temperatures will remain typical for autumn but the increased wet weather will mark a shift in the pattern.
The final week of October, from October 20 to 26, looks set to bring a wetter and windier finish to the month. Low pressure systems will likely bring intermittent heavy rain and blustery conditions, especially across northern and northwestern parts of the country. Despite this, temperatures should hover around average for the season.
While October is traditionally wetter and cooler than September, this forecast offers a hopeful note with a sunny, dry start before the inevitable autumnal rains return. As always, it’s wise to keep an eye on daily updates and be prepared for the Irish weather’s famously unpredictable nature.
